Acupuncture has traditionally been used as a method of balancing the body’s energy by inserting needles under the skin at specific points along energy pathways (meridians), to prevent or cure diseases and/or disorders.

Contemporary Medical Electro-Acupuncture, however, applies the evidence-based concepts of acupuncture (neuro-functional approach) to relieve pain, alter movement patterns and improve performance.

It is now well recognized that needles inserted at acupuncture points induce biochemical changes in the body, such as the release of pain relieving endorphins. A contemporary medical approach to acupuncture uses the therapist’s knowledge of anatomy and neuro-physiology in relation to your condition to guide the selection of points (Note: this is in contrast to the Traditional Chinese Medicine approach, which uses the meridian system).

Therefore, needle insertion points in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture are based on the extensive knowledge of neuromuscular anatomy to alter nerve flow and/or muscle tone.  Contemporary Medical Acupuncturists at Body Solutions Health Clinic have completed the Contemporary Medical Acupuncture program at McMaster University Health Sciences, which focuses on the science based application of acupuncture.

Ricardo Saikali, Clinic Director

Ricardo Saikali, RMT, CMAG, has over 20 years experience in the natural health and manual medicine therapy fields. His manual therapy education began at the highly esteemed Sutherland-Chan College and McMaster University and has included on-going studies abroad learning under international and European experts and masters.

He is the founder of the Body Solutions Health Clinic, specializing in neuro-functional therapy, contemporary medical acupuncture, advanced sports therapy, and organ (visceral) therapy (including spinal biomechanics, cranial nerve and artery therapy).  His experience includes a branch of neuro-functional therapy that specifically treats anxiety, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(OCD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD).  Ricardo has worked as a developer, educator and neutral party assessor/advisor to the insurance industry in the Massage Therapy field. He has also spent over 17 years as a practitioner volunteering time on a non-profit basis, including the development of exercise and fitness programs and rehabilitative therapy on an international organization level.

Ricardo’s belief is that the body was purposely designed to function in the surrounding environment. Therefore, his approach to therapy has always been grounded as integrative, as the body should be treated as a unit who’s parts do not work independent of each other: somatic/physical (bone, ligaments, fascia), visceral (organ systems, brain, nerves, arteries) and psycho-emotional (thinking patterns, negative stored memory, belief systems). In addition, the goal is not to chase the symptoms nor focus on the pain but to discover and treat the source or root cause of any dysfunctions. As well, he firmly believes that other key elements to well being include proper nutrition, rest, awareness and protection from our environment and functional exercise.

To discover and treat underlying system weakness on a cellular and molecular level, Ricardo has also been certified in the use of bioresonance therapy based on German and Russian medical scientific technology.

Ricardo views each person as an individual who knows their own body best. In addition to extensive assessments, listening and understanding each person with each visit leads to the best resolution possible. Contrary to mainstream thinking, going back to the foundational structure, function and design of the body has been key to Ricardo’s consistent record of success. He is sincere and adamant about educating his patients and empowering them to live healthier lives.

On his kickback days, Ricardo loves to enjoy the outdoor sports, cook, do landscape design, innovate technology, and values painting in many forms. He stays connected with his family and friends and cherishes precious moments with his dear wife, Nancy. He also regularly participates in non-profit life-coaching educational work in the local community of Georgetown, Ontario.
